Introductory First 5 Driving Lessons

Alliance School of Motoring's introductory offer is only £150 for your first 5 hours driving with us. This is excellent value at only £30 per hour, thereafter standard hourly rates apply. Note, only one introductory offer is available per person.

Standard Hourly Rates For Driving Lessons

Our current hourly rate for a driving lesson is £35 for one hour or £68 for two hours

Block booking and Intensive Driving Courses

If you've already used your introductory offer, savings can still be made on block bookings of 10 or more hours. Our block booking rates are detailed below

• 10 hours £330, saving £20.
• 20 hours £650, saving £50.
• 30 hours £975, saving £75.
• 30+ hours, available on request.

Pass Plus

Pass plus is £240 for the full 6 hour course, this can be done as a 1 day course or as 2 lots of 3 hour blocks.

Refresher Driving Lessons - Passed your test but not confident on the roads?

Then Refresher Lessons could be for you.  They are designed to give you the confidence you need to drive by yourself, but with the assurance of having a qualified instructor by your side.  Refresher lessons can be taken in any aspect of driving, for example parking, driving manoeuvres, general driving, roundabouts etc. The refresher lessons can be tailored to your own personal needs. Refresher driving lessons are charged at the same rates as our driving lessons.

Driving instructor lessons

We can train you to become a driving insructor. Driving instructor training lessons will be charged at £40 per hour. To find our more about becoming a driving instructor please see our Driving Instructor Training page.

Learning to drive in my own car

Lessons can be taken in your own car at a discount rate of £30 per hour. You need to insure your own car and ensure that the insurance company is aware that you hold only a provisional licence.

What do I need to be able to drive in my own car?

The car needs to be roadworthy, have legal tyres, working lights, a current mot, road tax and insurance certificate. You also need to have L plates on the front and back of the car. Note, it is recommended to carry spare L plates in your car incase one is lost. To take the test in your car an additional rear-view mirror is also required for the examiner. Your lights and tyres might be checked in your test.

Is there an advantage in taking lessons in your car instead of my own?

Firstly, there is peace of mind for all , the instructor or examiner can use the dual controls to stop the vehicle (if required). Other reasons for using my car include the fact that it is an air conditioned vehicle, you don't require to purchase L plates or additional mirrors and the car is kept road-worthy and serviced regularly.

What is the standard procedure for lessons when I take my test?

A minimum of a two hour lesson is required when you take your test. This will allow for practice before the test, followed by the test itself after which you will be driven home. Once at the test centre, you will be met by your examiner, who will check your licence, theory test certificate and letter of appointment. You will then be taken outside to check your eye sight (you must be able to read a number plate from a minimum of 20.5 meters) and answer two vehicle safety questions. The examiner will then explain the procedure of the test before you depart out of the test centre, you will return 40-45 minutes later. At the end of the test you will be informed of their decision as to whether you have passed or failed, I will then drive you home. If you have passed, the examiner will ask you if you would like your new licence sent to you and they will dispose of your provisional licence.

After passing, you are eligible to take a one-off pass plus course for a fee of £240 which enables you to gain more experience on the road especially the motorways. Once successfully passed you could be eligible for cheaper car insurance.
